Senior Night, Record Night
Tyran Stokes predicts, then busts single-game scoring record with 63 points

It turns out that Tyran Stokes was not joking about breaking Rainier Beach’s single-game scoring record.
His 3-pointer with 4:51 to play in a 107-38 rout of West Seattle gave Stokes 63 points, two more than Jalen Petty, who scored 61 a little over a year ago on January 7, 2025.
Stokes talked about breaking the school scoring record the day before, after practice.
“I knew,” he said on Tuesday night.

What Stokes knew is that he had a shot and, “I had to try it at least one time.” When he scored 52 points at home against Seattle Prep, Stokes said, “I was close, to knew it would be possible. This time, I knew it would be more special on Senior Night.”
Along with fellow seniors Marques Ili-Meneese and Tariq Shabazz, Stokes was celebrated before the game, which was played in front of a full house, including assistant coaches from Kansas and Kentucky.
Before the ceremony, Rainier Beach principal Annie Patu led a moment of silence and prayer for the two students who were killed near the school on Friday. Spectators were checked with a metal detector upon entering the school and there was visible police presence.

Stokes flushed down 13 dunks and made three 3-pointers. He scored 24 points in the third quarter, eclipsing his 22-point outburst during his 52-point game against Seattle Prep. He also had 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and one monster block.
The Vikings, 18-1, hadn’t played since beating Garfield on January 23. Their only game last week, at Roosevelt, was cancelled because of the shooting.
Rainier Beach next plays at arch-rival Eastside Catholic on Friday at 8:30 p.m., then makes up the game at Roosevelt on Saturday, 12:30 p.m. They will play a home game in the Metro League playoffs next Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the league championship at Seattle Pacific University on Friday the 13th at 8 p.m.
